Paid in full

Yesterday as I was attending Alpha at the church and was watching the video, something that was said by Bear Grylls hit me:

“I was bought at a price.”

This statement kept on sinking deep within me which forced me to have an internal conversation with myself.

Am I really worth the price that Jesus had paid?

Time and again, I continue to fail. No amount of devotionals or meditations or prayers can make me a holy and righteous person. Try as I might, I always end up falling weak and giving in to the ways of the world.

I reflected again on the statement. Reality speaking, no one in their right mind will buy an item that has no value. No one will invest in a failing business. To do such act is suicide.

And yet Jesus did. He bought the failing and unworthy me. And He did not just pay in increments, He paid the price in full. He paid the price with His Blood.

Some would say Jesus paid for our sins because He saw in us the potential for holiness. Yes that is correct. Others would say He paid for our sins because He wants to reconcile us with the Father. That is also absolutely true.

For me, Jesus paid for our sins because of one thing: Love.

He loves us so much that He could not stay in His throne in Heaven. Just like stooping down to the ground, allowing Himself to get dirty when He first created man, He stooped down again and emptied Himself to become a Man and embrace all of mankind’s faculties and then die a gruesome death.

Jesus paid the price in full.

Jesus bankrupted heaven for our sake.

Because of Love.

This, for me, is a message I can rest upon.

I pray that you will be able to see this too. May every person, thought, situation, and emotion remind you that you are loved by a God Who is willing to pay the price for you.
